When will I feel better? What does homeopathic treatment look like? How long does it take to feel better?
Simply put? It depends.
Some patients report huge improvements immediately. Others, it takes time.
I often talk to my patients about “layers of health”. You see, over our life time we experience various instances of health and illness. We go through grief, excitement, change, injuries, illnesses. Every instance of our life creates symptoms and ripples and depending on how we manage those symptoms – symptoms either stick around, or they go away.
Through homeopathy, we are slowly peeling away those layers, working through them and letting them go - healing what remains so it no longer plagues you. Healing takes time, but how much?
A very simple, and very general, rule of thumb for “how long will this take?” is: for every year of suffering it takes one month of active healing to repair the body. Sometimes more, sometimes less.
Every rule has exceptions though…healing may take longer if there are obstacles to cure, pathological tissue change, or deep rooted issues that need addressing.
So how do you get the most out of your treatment? Commit to health.
The ideal patient is ready for change, ready for healing, and committed to taking the steps necessary to heal.
The ideal patient is ready to adjust their diet, start exercising, take a critical look at unhealthy relationships, commit to therapy, choose a non-hormonal birth control, or maybe all they need is a little time and homeopathy to rebalance.
That being said, one of the things that drew me to Homeopathy was that I didn't have to dramatically shift my life around - no cutting out dairy or gluten, no dramatic workout plans. Emphasis was put on what my body was capable of rather than what I was doing to it - unless what I was doing was harmful or perpetuating symptoms. My homeopath recommended I stop using commercial deodorants, get more active, and consider therapy for my anxiety. Simple, small, attainable, adjustments that would encourage the healing that my body was already doing.
At the end of the day, each patient is unique and I treat them as such. Every treatment starts with an in depth consultation and Homeopathy exclusively, unless there are lifestyle issues in urgent need of change. With a little nudge from homeopathy, we focus on observing what the body is capable of healing on it’s own. Over time, our body will call for the next step: it will tell us it is ready for therapy, it will give us the strength to quit our job, it will make sugar unappetizing, it will give us the energy to get back into exercise.
The ideal patient is not the one who does it all, it is the one who is open to change, trusts their body, listens to their gut, and is patient with progress. Healing is never linear, but the process can be enlightening.
